A SocialBox.Biz blog post update by Alex 4 May 2020
Our team has been working endlessly for years to reach our 1000th laptop for homeless handover milestone in April 2020 for donated reused laptops. Although we met that mark, we will celebrate it a bit later, we are pushing it to the side for now as there are more pressing things at hand with the c-19 pandemic.
Right now, our team is delivering reused laptops, working to help the elderly, homeless, and refugees that are now not only battling homelessness, but also working to stay safe from coronavirus. It’s a public health emergency we could have never foreseen, but we are glad we have the infrastructure and processes to help right now.
Being able to access the internet to speak with loved ones, doctors, and potential job positions during c-19 is important. Our laptops in accommodation services right now are providing these critical opportunities to people, and we want to ensure we are focused on that mission.
We will keep you updated regarding new date announcements for our laptop handover celebrations. We believe it’s important that we all come together in the future to recognize what’s possible when the public and private sector work in tandem for the betterment of society.
As always, if you know a company, council, school, college, university or an IT department looking to rehome old, outdated but still useful tech, we are here. We believe that all elements of a business can be used to improve the rates of homelessness, employment, and earnings. We need that more than ever right now.
“Helping people and families in hardship, we estimate that a 3-7% shift in procurement policies towards local social impact would reduce digital exclusion by one third. This is something many of our great business clients are already doing.” said the team at SocialBox.Biz.
Companies and organisations who’ve reviewed procurement policies are finding that their old but still useful and unused IT equipment can be donated to support the needs local vulnerable people while also growing their companies and their links in the community via SocialBox.Biz initiative. Local donations have been proven to reduce carbon emissions while providing a greater impact on the lives of those in reception. We have been successful in this with the private sector businesses with many great British businesses already participating and are now inviting other sectors to join us in this social impact effort.
We hope you will continue to join us on our journey to internet independence. We can’t do it without you.
